Student Reviews & Testimonials
Rajdeep
To be honest, this is one of the best hospitals, with qualified doctors. Their treatment as well as their behavior both are excellent. We are very satisfied with Dr. Sumit Kumar from General Surgery. He solved our two-year-long issue, a problem caused by a previous surgery performed by an outside hospital doctor. We are really grateful to him.

MBBS admission goes through NEET UG and MCC All India counselling. In 2024 the general category closing rank for AIIMS Guwahati MBBS was around AIR 3476, and for EWS around 5035, so students generally need a high 600+ NEET score to stay competitive.
What is the MBBS eligibility for AIIMS Guwahati (12th percentage, age)?
For MBBS, candidates must complete 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English, with at least 50% aggregate in PCB for General category and lower for reserved categories, and must be at least 17 years old by 31 December of the admission year.
How is BSc Nursing admission done at AIIMS Guwahati?
BSc Nursing admission uses the AIIMS BSc Nursing Entrance Exam followed by AIIMS Delhi counselling. The intake is 60 seats, eligibility is 10+2 with 55% marks in aggregate, and the total institute fee for the 4‑year course is about ₹6,365 excluding hostel mess and personal expenses.
What is the MBBS fee structure at AIIMS Guwahati for the full course?
As an AIIMS, tuition and institutional fees are heavily subsidised. The total MBBS academic fee including hostel charges is around ₹5,856 for the entire course, with no separate hostel rent; the main recurring cost for students is mess charges and personal expenses.
How much does mess and food cost per month in AIIMS Guwahati hostels?
The mess charges are about ₹150 per day, covering breakfast, lunch, evening snacks and dinner with a rotating monthly menu decided by student representatives. This translates to roughly ₹4,500–₹4,800 per month depending on the number of days.
Does AIIMS Guwahati provide any fee concessions or scholarships?
Being a centrally funded Institute of National Importance with very low tuition fees, there is no large internal tuition waiver scheme. Students generally use national and state government scholarships (for SC/ST/OBC/EWS and other categories) and standard bank education loans when needed.
Are there campus placements for MBBS or BSc Nursing students at AIIMS Guwahati?
MBBS graduates do not sit for corporate placements; they enter compulsory internship within AIIMS or affiliated hospitals and then prepare for postgraduate entrance exams like INI CET and NEET PG. BSc Nursing graduates typically join government or private hospitals through recruitment exams and hospital interviews rather than a campus placement drive.
What kind of clinical exposure do MBBS students get at AIIMS Guwahati?
AIIMS Guwahati runs its own teaching hospital as an Institute of National Importance, so students get exposure to a wide variety of OPD, IPD, emergency and speciality cases. Clinical postings start from the early clinical years, with rotations through Medicine, Surgery, Paediatrics, Obstetrics & Gynaecology and other departments.
How is the hostel facility at AIIMS Guwahati (room type, furniture, utilities)?
Hostels are on campus, newly constructed and fully furnished with bed, table, chair and almirah in each room. All rooms have electricity backup, ceiling fans, geysers in washrooms, RO water coolers on every floor and common rooms with TV, indoor games and newspapers.
Is hostel accommodation compulsory for first‑year students?
For MBBS and BSc Nursing students, hostel allotment is standard practice and strongly encouraged so that students can participate in round‑the‑clock clinical and academic activities. Day scholars are rare because the institute and hospital schedule involves long, irregular hours.
What is the room allotment pattern in boys’ and girls’ hostels at AIIMS Guwahati?
Boys usually stay in double‑occupancy rooms till about the 7th semester and shift to single rooms later, while girls typically have double occupancy for the initial semesters and then single rooms from around 3rd semester onward. Girls’ hostels also have some triple‑sharing rooms for first‑year MBBS and Nursing students.
Is ragging a problem at AIIMS Guwahati?
AIIMS Guwahati enforces a strict zero‑tolerance anti‑ragging policy. Every student signs an anti‑ragging undertaking at admission, and an institutional anti‑ragging committee and squad monitor hostels and campus 24×7, with strong disciplinary action for any violation.
How is the safety and security on campus, especially for girls?
The institute has round‑the‑clock security staff at hostels, reception areas and campus gates. Separate boys’ and girls’ hostels, controlled entry, CCTV coverage in common areas and wardens on duty enhance safety for women students within the campus.
What is the basic dress code for MBBS classes and hospital postings?
Students follow standard medical dress norms: modest formal or semi‑formal clothes with closed footwear and a white apron during academic sessions and clinical postings. During anatomy dissection and labs, additional protective gear such as gloves and appropriate shoes is mandatory.
Is AIIMS Guwahati better than older state medical colleges in Assam for MBBS?
AIIMS Guwahati is an autonomous Institute of National Importance under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare with central funding, smaller batch strength (around 125 MBBS seats) and modern infrastructure. State colleges offer strong clinical load, but AIIMS status, research focus and national branding give AIIMS Guwahati a higher academic and career value.
How does AIIMS Guwahati compare with other new AIIMS campuses?
AIIMS Guwahati has similar fee structure and central funding as other new AIIMS, but has the advantage of serving the North‑East with a large referral catchment area, which enhances case diversity. Batch size, curriculum pattern and examination system broadly follow the AIIMS system across the country.
What research or PG opportunities exist after MBBS at AIIMS Guwahati?
AIIMS Guwahati offers MD/MS, PhD and various postgraduate programs with admissions through INI CET and PhD entrance tests. MBBS graduates can continue within the institute for MD/MS in departments like General Medicine, General Surgery and other clinical and pre‑clinical specialities, subject to merit in national examinations.
Can students install AC or extra appliances in hostel rooms?
Hostel rooms come with basic electrical fittings, but students can install an air conditioner or other additional appliances only with permission, and they must bear the extra electricity charges themselves. Each floor already has washing machines and RO water dispensers as common utilities.
