Assam Medical College and Hospital was named on 3rd November,1947 which is the first Medical College in North East India and in Assam obviously. It is located in Dibrugarh in the middle of tea garden and beside Brahmaputra River. It was earlier known as Berry White Medical School founded in the year 1900. Its emergency services run in casualty had in all other departments. It is a prestigious medical college with good academic activities every year. Spread over a large area it has hostel and canteen facilities.

AMC: As an attendant's point of view 🤝 Established as the first medical college of Assam in 1947, it has been serving not only patients from Assam but also from nearby states. I took a patient there with fractured femur and tibia. After getting the ticket from OPD, we were assigned a bed at the Orthopedics Department. Positives: The doctors took care of the patient immediately and visited twice daily. They were available almost all the time. Nurses were also quite friendly with us and helped us in every way possible. Treatment was quite reasonably priced as it is a government hospital. I kept my bike outside all night for two weeks, but the security guy did his duty 24 hours, every day! Negatives: Some doctors were really, really discourteous. Most of them were students, and at times, they were confused with what they were doing. They made mistakes, and they consulted with their guides about all the queries. Hygiene is one of the big issues. The toilet was full of water for 2 days without any cleaning. Very limited drinking water facilities is also a major concern. Request: There is an urgent need for an X-ray facility in the Orthopedics Department so that patients with broken body parts do not need to move to other departments just for that only. It was a painful experience. I sincerely thank the whole AMC team for their effort. It was a learning experience.
