A very big and beautiful university. I recently went there to attend a convocation ceremony from my college. The University is very big and surely a piece of art. It is a government university and my college is affiliated with it. Atal Bihari Vajpayee Medical University provides excellent academic infrastructure and a strong focus on medical research and training. It has a very lavish and marvellous auditorium. Has spacious lifts and a separate washroom for male, female and handicapped. The lawn and the garden is beautiful.

Atal Bihari Vajpayee Medical University, Lucknow is a growing hub for medical education in Uttar Pradesh. The university handles admissions and affiliations for all medical, dental, nursing, and paramedical colleges in the state, so it’s an important place for students. ✔️ The administration is well-organized for major entrance exams like CNET (Nursing) and CPET (Paramedical). ✔️ Staff are helpful, and updates are usually available on the official website. ✔️ The new campus at Chak Ganjaria is under development—modern infrastructure is coming up, though currently many facilities are in the transit campus. ✔️ Academic standards are strong, with focus on medical research and training. ⚠️ On the downside, some students face delays in counselling schedules and paperwork, which can be stressful. Parking and transport connectivity can also improve as the permanent campus expands. Overall, it’s a promising medical university that’s steadily growing into a top institute in North India.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is ABVMU a teaching medical college or mainly an affiliating university?
ABVMU in Lucknow functions primarily as a state affiliating medical university that grants affiliation to government and private medical, dental, nursing and paramedical colleges across Uttar Pradesh, designs curricula and conducts examinations, rather than running a large on-campus MBBS teaching hospital itself.
Which entrance exams does ABVMU itself conduct for admissions?
ABVMU conducts the Common Nursing Entrance Test (CNET) for B.Sc Nursing, Post Basic B.Sc Nursing and M.Sc Nursing, and separate entrance tests for GNM and common paramedical bachelor and master courses, with centralized online counselling through its official portals abvmucet24/25 and abvmuup.
How is admission to MBBS and BDS in ABVMU-affiliated colleges done?
MBBS and BDS admissions in all ABVMU-affiliated government and private colleges in Uttar Pradesh run through NEET-UG counselling conducted by the state counselling authority, while ABVMU provides affiliation, standardizes curriculum and conducts university examinations for these colleges.
What eligibility is required for ABVMU B.Sc Nursing CNET?
For B.Sc Nursing under ABVMU, candidates generally need 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English from a recognized board, with minimum qualifying marks as notified in that year’s CNET brochure, and they must clear the ABVMU CNET and participate in its centralized counselling.
Does ABVMU have its own fee structure for MBBS or is it college-wise?
ABVMU sets academic regulations and examinations, but MBBS, BDS, nursing and paramedical tuition fees are fixed college-wise by the state government or respective private managements; students pay fees directly to their allotted affiliated college after ABVMU or NEET-based counselling.
What is the typical hostel fee at ABVMU campus and affiliated government medical colleges?
Student reviews for ABVMU-affiliated government medical colleges report hostel charges around ₹4,800 per year for double-seater rooms, with mess charges commonly in the ₹3,300–₹4,000 per month range, including four meals a day and no separate electricity charges within the hostel fee.
Are UP government scholarships applicable to students of ABVMU-affiliated colleges?
Students enrolled in ABVMU-affiliated institutions can apply for the Uttar Pradesh Government Scholarship and Fee Reimbursement Scheme if they meet income, category and domicile criteria, with applications routed through their respective colleges and verified before disbursal of scholarship and reimbursement.
Does ABVMU itself offer campus placements or is it through individual colleges?
Being an affiliating medical university, ABVMU does not run a centralized corporate placement cell; MBBS, BDS, nursing and paramedical graduates typically secure internships, junior residency and jobs through their teaching hospitals, state and central government recruitment, and private hospital networks linked to their own colleges.
What kind of careers do ABVMU nursing and paramedical graduates usually pursue?
B.Sc Nursing, GNM and paramedical graduates from ABVMU-affiliated colleges generally work in government district hospitals, medical colleges, private corporate hospitals, diagnostic centres and home-care services across Uttar Pradesh and other states, or pursue higher studies such as M.Sc Nursing and paramedical master programmes under ABVMU.
Does ABVMU offer PhD or fellowship programmes in medical sciences?
ABVMU functions as a research and academic standards hub and has started PhD programmes in selected medical disciplines along with high-end fellowship and certificate courses, focusing on advanced clinical training, curriculum development and setting research standards for its affiliated institutions.
How is the ABVMU curriculum and examination system structured for affiliated colleges?
ABVMU designs and notifies uniform curricula and regulations for MBBS, BDS, nursing and paramedical programmes, conducts centralized semester or yearly examinations for all affiliated colleges, and publishes results through its online student result portal where candidates can check marks using roll or enrollment numbers.
What is the hostel facility like at the ABVMU Lucknow campus?
Student reviews describe ABVMU campus hostels as government-run double-seater rooms with beds, study tables, almirahs, fans, CCTV security, regular cleaning, washing machines and shared refrigerators, with hostel fee around ₹4,800 per year and mess providing four meals daily, though food quality is often rated average.
How is the overall campus life and festivals at ABVMU and its colleges?
Students mention an annual cultural and sports fest named “Ekaaya” held around October–November, freshers’ parties for first-year batches, drama programmes, yoga day, tree plantation drives and various national celebrations, making campus life moderately active alongside academically intensive schedules.
Is the ABVMU campus location in Lucknow convenient and safe for students?
ABVMU is located in Lucknow’s developing urban area (Vrindavan Yojna/Chak Ganjaria City zone), with a dedicated campus, administrative blocks and nearby sports ground; student feedback highlights a generally safe, clean campus with 24x7 security and better safety inside campus than in some off-campus rental localities.
Is there any dress code or uniform for ABVMU students during classes and exams?
Students of ABVMU-affiliated medical and nursing colleges typically follow standard professional dress codes set by their respective colleges, usually including white coats in clinical areas and modest formal wear; ABVMU enforces exam rules like carrying admit cards and valid ID but dress guidelines come from the college.
Can students do part-time jobs while studying in ABVMU-affiliated medical and nursing courses?
MBBS, BDS, nursing and paramedical programmes under ABVMU involve full-time schedules, including clinical postings and practicals, so colleges and hospitals generally discourage regular part-time jobs; some students take up occasional tuitions or short-term work only when it does not clash with postings and exams.
How does ABVMU compare with KGMU Lucknow for medical education?
KGMU is an autonomous state teaching medical university with its own large tertiary-care hospital and direct MBBS admissions, while ABVMU is the apex affiliating body for hundreds of medical and health colleges in Uttar Pradesh, standardizing curriculum, exams and degrees across the state.
What is the value of an ABVMU degree for postgraduate entrance exams and government jobs?
ABVMU is a state government medical university established by a 2018 Uttar Pradesh Act, and its MBBS, BDS, nursing and paramedical degrees from affiliated colleges are recognized for NEET-PG, INI-CET, nursing PG entrances and government recruitment where an MCI/NMC or statutory university degree is required.
