One of the oldest and reputed college of West Bengal. Hooghly Mohsin College (HMC) began on 1 August 1836 as the New Hooghly College, is one of the three government colleges of Hooghly district. It was established by Muhammad Mohsin, who also started other colleges. On its 100th anniversary it was renamed Hooghly Mohsin College. This college is situated right at the Western Bank of river Hooghly. It became affiliated by University of Calcutta since the latter’s initiation in 1857. After the establishment of the University of Burdwan in 1960, the college became its constituent college. This college is presently affiliated by The University of Burdwan. Both Undergraduate and Postgraduate courses are taught in morning, day, and evening shifts. Hostel facilities are available for boys students only.
