Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati is located just on the outskirts of the city of Guwahati.IIIT is around 20 km from the heart of the city and around 40 min drive from the airport. The campus is very good and well maintained the Academic Building has centralized AIR CONDITIONING and as the Institute is on the outskirts of the City you will not find much around you have hills and greenery around.

Nice place to learn and grow. Very supporting faculty. Only problem is mess food.Detailed:I'll be honest here. I don't know if you'll read this answer because it'll probably get downvoted to oblivion but here goes. I'll start with what's good at IIITG.1.) You won't have any non-core subjects here. Almost everything is related to your field of study. Well I'm excluding the HSS electives. You can refer to the curriculum in the official website to know more. Link: Indian Institute of Information Technology Guwahati2.) Professors are mostly friendly and knowledgeable enough (exceptions exist). I won't say that they're the best like most other answers do. Because they're not. Moreover it's the age of the internet. The internet is a huge pool of knowledge waiting to be tapped into. If you want to learn, you can. And honestly speaking, almost everyone depends on YouTube to prepare for the semester exams. I'm not taking anything away from the professors though. They're pretty good. Lab assistants are exceptions. Half of them don't know what they're doing. There are a few good ones. But mostly incompetent.3.) The classrooms are air conditioned and spacious enough. The campus is new and it has a good feel to it. The hostel is the best part but I think that's gonna change. I'll talk about the hostel later.4.) If you care about the placements, you can refer to the other answers. I don't know if they're accurate but I guess you'll have to take their word for it. Ideally, you shouldn't depend on the college to get a job.5.) It's easily accessible. It's really close to the airport (4km). A bit far from the railway station but overall I'd say it has good connectivity.6.) The IIIT tag. It really doesn't matter but you can brag to others and post it on your Instagram page so yay.7.) As pointed out by Ajit in the comment section, the internet is pretty fast. I haven't measured it but I've had no problems with streaming videos at 1080p.Okay that's probably it about the good parts of IIITG.Before I come to the negatives, and negatives are the main reason I'm writing this answer. People here seem to be bent on promoting this college instead of being honest. Sad but that's the only reason I bothered to create this account.I don't intend to hurt anyone. I just want the coming students to be well informed into what they're getting into.So here are the negatives (in my opinion):1.) Poor sports facilities. I'd say that they're non existent but I won't do justice to the two table tennis tables and carrom boards. And there's a lot of open space that's been converted into a makeshift playground. And the cricket pitch was made by a student. Tells you a lot about the importance of sports in this college. A volleyball “court”, a cricket “ground”, a football “field” all of these things exist. But they're not fit to be called any of those. Apparently they're going to develop some sports facilities2.) Mess food. Enough said. That's expected. But what's not expected is the lack of any other option in the campus. There's a dhaba nearby but it's really substandard. Apparently there's going to be a canteen from this academic year onwards (2019–2020) but they're just promises as of now. Oh and there's swiggy, it's really overpriced for the quality you get. Food outside is usually pretty bad here. It's to be expected considering it's a very remote area.3.) The nearest market is 4km away. It's not that big of a deal because you don't have to go all the time. But it would be nice to have convenience stores nearby.4.) Hostel. Yeah I know. I included this in the good things as well. It's included here because the college authorities failed to construct a new hostel. The current boys hostel has a capacity for 400 people ( as stated in the official website) and it's almost full. So they've resorted to increase the capacity of the hostels by stuffing 2 students into a room meant for a single student. This is a pretty big negative in my opinion. And nobody is talking about it (why ?).
