IIT (BHU) Varanasi has 16 departments, 3 inter-disciplinary schools and 1 Humanities & Social Sciences Section. It is located inside the Banaras Hindu University Campus.Excellent campus with lots of trees planted alongside. Peaceful environment. No need to talk about the quality of education here.

Founded in 1919 as the Banaras Engineering College(BENCO) as a part of the prestigious Banaras Hindu University(BHU) which was established in 1916 by the enormous efforts of Mahamana Pt. Madan Mohan Malaviya. It became the Institute of Technology (IT-BHU) in 1968 merging BENCO, MINMET(College of Mining and Metallurgy) and TECHNO(College of Technology). After the first proposal in 1972, it was finally designated as Indian Institute of Technology(BHU) Varanasi in 2012.Unique Elements:IIT-BHU co-exists in a University of 1350 acre semi-circular campus making it the most versatile IIT campus.Being a part of a University gives the students exposure to various inter-disciplinary courses.•Only IIT with Satvik Mess - Pure Vegetarian mess without Onion and Garlic.•Probably the only IIT with a council dedicated to social service.•Only IIT to have has Varanasi - unique city with its amazing Ghats and Temples. ;D•Most students opt the 7 old IITs above IIT-BHU. But IIT-BHU has better curriculum than other IITs in some of the courses, and also has a better average package.
