I had to take one of my extended family members to the campus as she applied for a three-month internship at the Department of Chemistry and got selected by Professor Sarkar. It took us over an hour to reach the campus from Radisson Square. The road and route were largely fine and finally we reached the campus. The security was adequate with CISS Agency managing the security with CCTV surveillance. After producing the documents and identity proof, we headed to Homi Jahangir Bhabha Hostel which is one of many residential establishments. The campus was colossal, immaculately clean and well-organized with proper signages in place. As it is the second generation IIT, the establishment is relatively new, contemporary and smart in several respects. The hostel was huge, well-ventilated, well-equipped with an elevator installed. It appeared clean and safe with a female security guard manning the entrance. There is a dedicated Girls' Unit on the Ground Floor and the remaining hostel is for boys. We went to the Hostel Office in room 115 and Shri Santosh, the in-charge helped us immensely to complete the hostel formalities in the least possible time. The room charges were ₹3360/month for a double occupancy room and ₹125/day as Mess charges. While going out, I could spot a crowded canteen, sports complex and academic blocks of selected Departments. I am confident that the Institution is and will produce value-driven engineers and researchers who act responsibly, sensibly and with sensitivity towards the nation and the planet on the whole.
