Established in 1979, the Jagiroad College ( Formerly known as the Kapilee Anchalik Mahavidyalaya) began as a single faculty (Arts) undergraduate College under Gauhati University. Carrying on its pursuits with commitment and zeal, it had made fast strides with a full fledged science stream coming up subsequently in 1986. Regular classes, good results, periodic evaluation and strict maintenance of discipline have been the hallmark of this institution. It has already celebrated its Silver jubilee in the year 2004. The college has been able to reckon itself among the best colleges of the region. The College adopted its hallowed heritage through its founder Principal Mr. Mahendra Ahom who has since joined in the Tezpur University as its Registrar and now retired. In almost all its aspects, the college reflects the earlier dreams and enterprizes of its founder Principal Mahendra Ahom who had left no stone unturned in taking the college to new heights. The next Principal of the College, Dr. Altafur Rahman (noe retired) was also similarly vowed to bring this college the laurels of an institution of excellence. Equally dedicated are the present Principal (i/c) Sri Utpalmoni Phukan and the lecturers who have been singularly poised and privileged to educate a vibrant and colourful student community. Most of the students coming from a milieu of disadvantaged and marginalized section (both economically and socially), the Jagiroad College has already made a mark in the academic scenario of the State. It is a great breakthrough for an institution to educate youths by infusing in them a greater motivation for an initiative for learning from life, of whom a large number are the first generation learners. A total of about 1400 are presently studying in the College. There are all together 55 lecturers making an all out and concerted bid to take the college to new heights. Each of them has the motivation to apply imaginative methods in teaching and also the sensitivity to adapt effectively to the changing times. Location:- Jagiroad, a Principal but a small town of the Morigaon district of Assam, is at a distance of 56 kms. from the state capital, Guwahati. Situated against the backdrop of the scenic and tranquil Sonaikuchi Hills ,Jagiroad College is located in the southern part of the Morigaon District. Adjacent to Kamrup District in the west, the College lies within a stone's throw from the National Highway 37, (100 meters approx.) and less than a km. from the Jagiroad railway station. The historic Zoon Beel (a natural waterbody, connected with some myths of the local ethnicTiwa community), lies to the north whereas the College shares its eastern boundary with the Nagaon Paper Mill, a unit of the Hindustan Paper Corporation Limited.
