Established on August 15, 1978, by the esteemed Ayurvedic physician and former Member of Parliament, Late Kaviraj Ananta Tripathy Sharma, the college was initially under private management before being taken over by the state government on April 1, 1994.  Courses offer in KATS are Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (B.A.M.S.) and Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) in Shalya Tantra (Surgery)
