Government Mamit College, established on April 1, 1983, stands as a prominent government institution in Mamit, Mizoram. The college is affiliated with Mizoram University and holds a B+ accreditation from NAAC. Situated in the heart of Mamit town, it serves the higher educational needs of students from the surrounding regions, including those from backward and minority communities. Initially affiliated with NEHU, the college received permanent affiliation from Mizoram University effective from July 1, 2006. It was provincialized by the Government of Mizoram in 2007 and recognized by UGC in the same year. The college campus spans approximately 3.11 acres, providing a conducive environment for learning. It offers six undergraduate courses primarily in the Humanities and Social Sciences stream, including popular programs like BA Honours in Economics, Education, History, Mizo, English, and Political Science. Admissions are primarily merit-based, considering scores from CUET UG and performance in 10+2 examinations like MBSE HSSLC and CBSE 12th. The college has a dedicated faculty team, with 31 members as of March 2023, catering to a student enrollment of 141 as of 2023. The total seat capacity for undergraduate programs is 360. Infrastructure includes ICT-enabled classrooms, a library with a good collection of books and e-resources, IT facilities, a canteen, and sports amenities. A women's hostel is available with limited capacity. While the college does not have a formal placement cell, it supports student career development through initiatives like encouraging internships with local organizations.
