Mahatma Gandhi Government Arts College Mahe (MGGAC Mahe) is a Government College which has been serving students in Mahe and nearby areas of Kannur and Kozhikode Districts in Kerala for the last 50 years.The college was established in its current form in 1970 and functioned at the current JNGHSS school building at Mahe. MGGAC moved to its current campus at Mount Vera, Chalakkara in the 1980s.The College was formerly under the University of Calicut. It is now affiliated with Pondicherry University. MGGAC offers 11 UG courses and 2 PG courses. Although it has some limitations including lack of funds from Government, insufficient buildings and shortage of faculty in some Departments, the college has many things to offer. Highly qualified faculty and activities including NSS, NCC and various clubs are present.A downside of MGGAC Mahe is that there is currently no elected College Union. Hence there are some problems to organize good programmes and to express students voices on the matters which affect them at college. Students are trying their best to bring an elected representative body.There are lots of alumni of MGGAC Mahe who have reached great heights in various fields of life. That includes academicians, authors, scientists, government servants and politicians. MGGAC Mahe continues its journey into the new age after completing 50 years. 2020 is the golden jubilee year. :-)
