Educational service, being the motto of Sri. N.K. Thirumalachariar embarked into the scheme of starting a college for training teachers. The need for a training college was immensely felt, as there was a scarcity of trained teachers in Tamil Nadu during that period. Hence, in order to widen the horizon of educational service, the National Education Society started the N.K.T. National Training College, at present termed as , Triplicane, Chennai-5, within the premises of the N.K.T National Girls’ Higher Secondary School, originally started by the society. The Teachers Training College was started in the year 1996 with a formal inauguration by the then Honorable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Shri. M. Bakthavatsalam under the distinguished presidentship of Dr. A.L. Mudaliar, the then Vice Chancellor of University of Madras. The role of colleges in Education has increased in complexity due to the concept of progressive education, aiming at meaningful learning and hence the college has widened the avenues of educational service to Secondary and Higher Secondary Schools, Art and Science Colleges, mass communication services, hospitals, rural extension centers for health and population education, institution for the disabled such as the visually and hearing impaired, mentally retarded and othopaedically disabled. The college is continuing its journey forward in pursuit of excellence in education to achieve them.
