Central Institute of Fisheries Nautical and Engineering Training was established in 1963 and is located in Ernakulam, Kerala, specifically at Fine Arts Avenue, Foreshore Road, Kochi-16. It is a premier institution focused on marine training, exclusively for boys. The institute has cultivated several international collaborations, including those with FAO fellowship, CFTC, SCAAP, Colombo plan, and ITEC, showcasing its global outlook and commitment to specialized skill development. CIFNET, a key part of India's marine training infrastructure, offers vocational training and a Bachelor's degree to students. These programs are provided across 3 departments, accommodating a total seat capacity of 80 students. The Central Institute of Fisheries Nautical and Engineering Training provides its academic programs in affiliation with Cochin University of Science and Technology, Kochi. Further, CIFNET provides courses like the Marine Fitter Course (MFC) and the Vessel Navigator Course (VNC), both 2-year vocational programs with 20 seats each, where students receive a stipend of ₹1,500 monthly during training and ₹20,500 during post-institutional training. The Bachelor of Fishery Science (Nautical Science), a 4-year degree with 40 seats, is also a flagship offering, focusing on Marine Engineering, Nautical Science, and Fisheries Science. Lateral entry is also available for the BFSc program. The institute is located in a well-equipped 4.35-acre campus in Ernakulam. Eligibility for vocational courses requires a 10th Standard pass with 40% in Math and Science, while the BFSc (Nautical Science) program requires 10+2 with minimum 50% in PCB or PCM.
