A Cautionary Tale: Avoid St. Mary’s Engineering College, Deshmukhi Choosing St. Mary’s Engineering College in Deshmukhi was one of the biggest regrets of my kids academic journey. Despite their claim of being an “autonomous” institution, the reality is far from what they promise. Here’s a breakdown of the major issues that make this college a place to avoid: 1. Unresponsive and Intimidating Management The college administration is barely available to address student or parent concerns. When issues arise, getting a straightforward answer is impossible, as management either blames each other or hides behind vague “management decisions.” Adding to the hostility, they employ bouncers on campus, creating an atmosphere that feels more like a prison than a place of learning. 2. Exploitative Fee Policies The college’s approach to fees is exploitative, with sudden circulars demanding payments under strict deadlines. Even if students manage to pay within the timeframe, they still risk fines. These fines, imposed at Rs. 100 per day, add unnecessary stress for students and families already managing high tuition fees. 3. Poor Hostel and Campus Facilities Basic amenities are severely lacking. The hostel conditions are appalling, with poor maintenance and inadequate facilities that don’t even meet basic standards of comfort. Classrooms and labs are no better, with outdated and insufficient equipment that hinder any hope for practical learning. 4. Disrespectful Environment Security staff treat students with utter disrespect, creating a demeaning environment. Rather than supporting students, they add to the overall stress, making students feel unwelcome on their own campus. 5. Abysmal Education Standards The academic experience here is profoundly disappointing. Qualified professors rarely make appearances, leaving classes in the hands of inexperienced graduates who lack the skills needed to teach effectively. Laboratory facilities are nearly unusable, preventing students from gaining the hands-on experience essential to their education. 6. A Joke of a Placement Program The college’s “placement” program is nothing short of a scam. Instead of bringing in reputable organizations, the college invites small, local companies that offer no real career advancement opportunities. For students hoping to launch their careers, this is a complete letdown. 7. Zero Accountability and Transparency Any attempt to raise these issues is met with dismissive responses. Students and parents are stonewalled, with the college continuously hiding behind the excuse of “management decisions” to avoid accountability. Final Verdict St. Mary’s Engineering College, Deshmukhi, is a severe letdown in every possible way. From unprofessional management and inadequate facilities to a lack of educational quality and poor placement support, this institution fails to meet even the most basic expectations of an educational institution. For anyone considering this college, my advice is simple: look elsewhere for a place that respects its students and take education seriously. Update: As a parent I am highly disappointed with the way academics are handled at St.Marys, The institution fails to complete the syllabus on time, leaving students unprepared for exams. Instead of proper teaching and concept-based learning, they simply share PDFs of notes just 2-3 days before exams. This approach does not allow students to grasp the subject matter, as many are unfamiliar with the concepts due to a lack of structured teaching. A college should focus on quality education, interactive learning, and timely completion of the syllabus. Unfortunately, it seems to prioritize shortcuts over actual teaching. This not only affects students' understanding but also diminishes their overall learning experience. I urge the administration to take student concerns seriously and and make necessary improvements Note: I am not any competitor college to St.Marys, I am a parent of a student who is studying in the so called St.Marys Engineering college. BEWARE OF THE COLLEGE.
