The College was named after the name of Jnanadabhiram Borooah, a well known personality in the legal field of Assam and the first Principal of the first Law College of Assam. Eminent educationalist late Golap Chandra Choudhury (1969-1972), the first principal, was the key-person in the establishment of the college.
