Student Reviews & Testimonials
We visited for a PET scan and were thoroughly impressed by the entire experience. From registration to receiving the results, the process was smooth and well-coordinated. The hospitality was exceptional at every step. A special mention to the in-house restaurant — it’s one of the cleanest and most hygienic hospital eateries we’ve ever seen. The service and care provided there were top-notch. Archana, who was in charge of the PET scan section, deserves a huge shout-out. Despite the busy schedule, she managed every patient with remarkable care, patience, and professionalism. Her dedication truly stood out. The staff are clearly well-trained, courteous, and committed to patient care. Kudos to the management and the entire team for maintaining such high standards. This is, without a doubt, one of the best hospitals we’ve seen in Tamil Nadu in terms of care and hospitality.
As a fellow doctor, it takes something truly exceptional for a hospital to leave me not just impressed — but deeply moved. Meenakshi Mission Hospital has done exactly that, not once, but twice in my life — in moments of immense vulnerability and personal crisis. Back in 2018, my father suffered a massive myocardial infarction and went into cardiac arrest. The emergency department at Meenakshi Mission not only responded swiftly but resuscitated him with remarkable precision. Their intensive care and post-arrest management, including during the critical phase of cardiogenic shock, were handled with the kind of clinical excellence and coordinated urgency that’s rarely seen. They gave us time — and hope — when we had none. Years later, in a tragic second episode, my father was attacked by a swarm of greater banded hornets — an event few hospitals are equipped to handle. Once again, it was Meenakshi Mission Hospital’s Emergency Medicine team, along with the rare presence of trained toxicology specialists, who rose to the moment. Despite the odds and his delayed arrival, their care was exemplary. Every possible protocol was followed with dedication, skill, and compassion. Although he couldn’t be saved in the end, I am left with no doubt: he received the best possible care. And as his daughter and a doctor myself, that means everything. Meenakshi Mission is not just a hospital — it is a beacon of excellence in emergency and critical care. Their ability to act swiftly, bring together the right specialists, and deliver life-saving interventions is nothing short of inspiring. Today, I am not only a grateful family member — I am a true admirer of their standards, their systems, and above all, their spirit.
Room rent : Rs.10,000 per day. ( Worth only 500 a day) No separate AC. It's a centralised AC with only On/Off switch. If you don't want to use AC,, there is no proper natural ventilation in room. Behind the window of the room, there is a big chunk of garbage boxes and drums. See the pic. Patients are not given enough sleep at night. Morning 6am sharp they(nurses) will come to change bed sheets. No matter if patient is sleeping or not, they will just rush them to get up. Doctors, They keep on adding tests and scans to do at their time. Doesn't care about whether the patient is tired or not. If the doctor rounds is at 10:30am, nurses will ask the attenders to move out of the room at 9:45am. Why? Even if only baby and mother is in the room, they will ask the attenders to leave them at the room and get out and wait outside. For the attenders there is no sitting chair or anything while waiting for the doctor. There is no separate consultation time for the in patient. Only junior doctors will come for visiting the patient once or twice a day. 90% of the Nurses are not trained even for venflon procedure. Making the patients suffer more by inserting the needle multiple times at the same place. I felt like Some senior nurses think they own the ward. Bathroom shower won't work. No proper taps for hot water and cold water shower. You have to use the bucket all the time. Cupboards won't lock properly. Half of them are broken. Drawers won't close properly. TVs won't work 90% of time. Landline phone is broken. No laundry facility. Not even bucket to put used clothes. Bathroom buckets are shitty. Bathroom door lock won't work properly. I felt 100% Senior Doctors are arrogant. I think They are just angry that they had to work for earning. With them it's always one way communication. 50% Junior doctors are acting stupid. They do something and lie to seniors just to escape from their scolding. 80% nurses don't know what they are doing. 10% are kids. Just strolling around. Making fun of patients and attenders. Cleaners are doing their work properly. And are really positive towards all. Scanning place is the laziest place I have seen. Dietary for patients won't have more than 4 menu for your entire stay. If you complain anything about the room you stay, they will surely send support the day before your discharge. Such a ignorant management. Nurses act like they work in government hospital. Once we were feeding the new born baby, suddenly a nurse came and told us to OP room to see doctor. We said that we are feeding the baby, so it will take 10mins. What she said next was like Wtf!! She said if we are late by a minute, then doctor won't see the baby. That's what she said. Such an inhuman and immature nurses are there. So we had to rush to OP room and still waited for 10mins for the doctor.
Experience about Neurosurgery Department: I admitted my mother to get a diagnosis for a brain tumor and stayed to treat it at Madurai Meenakshi Mission New Hospital. However, due to various issues at the hospital, she developed cold secretion, leading to breathing problems. As a result, we were unable to address the primary issue we came for and had to rely on ventilator support. When the hospital management plans to upgrade their facilities with closed ventilation, they should prioritize cleanliness and a patient-friendly environment. Yet, despite having closed ventilation with no fresh air, they allow 10 to 15 visitors per patient in front of the ICU, which is unreasonable and illogical. The overcrowding and the presence of individuals with viral infections are certainly putting patients at risk of infection. This situation creates a chaotic environment akin to a busy train station, where the main goal of supporting ICU patients can be neglected. Many visitors, some exhibiting symptoms of cold, cough, or fever, enter the ICU without masks, which poses a serious threat to patients recovering from major surgeries like open-heart or brain operations, as they are especially vulnerable to infections—a concern that the management seems to ignore. They do not ensure proper hygiene for patients and instead blame the crowd, claiming that villagers do not understand. For patients from rural areas, it is the hospital's duty to limit visitor numbers and inform them about the risks of overcrowding. The current situation is reminiscent of a government hospital, where unrestricted access is permitted at all times. If you are charging fees comparable to those of hospitals in Coimbatore or Chennai, you must be prepared to uphold the standards and set appropriate expectations for your visitors, patients, and their attendants. In the past, having family close by could help a patient heal. But today’s illnesses need a more careful approach, highlighting the importance of preventive measures. Hospitals must understand this and teach visitors how to keep a safe environment for patients. If they don’t, it could hurt treatment results, lower their competitive advantage, and stop them from meeting the standards of hospitals in top-tier cities. Doctors provide hope for the first 50 days without clearly explaining the treatment procedures and plans. I can’t speak for other departments, but in the neurosurgery ward, every patient seems to get a tracheostomy (a tube in the throat for breathing). They make it mandatory for all patients. They even call you at midnight to say that if you don’t agree, your patient won’t survive. Eventually, you agree. I guess(Not sure) they have targets to meet so management won’t question them. After 74 days, they simply told us we could take our patient home. They said they would respond to our calls for medical help, but even after asking, we were told to continue treatment at the hospital. When the patient is on a tracheostomy and ventilator, they didn’t provide proper medical information upon discharge. When we called, they suggested taking the patient to a nearby hospital since the patient could walk easily. They are unreasonable and don’t allow family members to understand the treatment plan and the effects of the procedures they perform. After being discharged, my mother passed away within a week. I don’t want any mother to suffer like mine did because of this hospital and the way treatment was handled. I wish I could have gotten an appointment at Chithira Thirunal Hospital for my mother. It took me six months to process what happened. I am still not fully healed from the infection (weakened immune system - bone infection and skin infection due to the hospital’s cleanliness and overcrowding). I have been living in the hospital for 2 and half a month. How patients can survive with this environment?
