Tumkur University was established under the Karnataka State University act 2000 has a multi faculty University it has 12 post graduate departments. IIT established 29 research centres to promote advanced multidisciplinary Research and academic collaboration. In 2012 the university recognised under the section 12(b) of the UGC act, 1956. In the same year the national assessment and accreditation Council, an inter Council of the UGC, accredited the university with B grade in the 3 grade rating scale.
