Majuli University of Culture is widely recognized as Assam''s first State-owned university solely dedicated to cultural studies and research. Established in 2021, following the passage of the Majuli University of Culture Act in 2017, the institution has swiftly emerged as a significant academic hub in the serene island district of Majuli. Its core mission revolves around preserving, promoting, and propagating the rich cultural heritage of Assam and the North-East.
The university boasts a robust academic framework, offering seven specialized two-year MA programs. These include Assamese, English, History, Sociology, Political Science, Performing Arts, and Culture Studies, each delivered through its respective department. With a total faculty strength of 30 dedicated members, the university ensures focused attention and a conducive learning environment for its students, accommodating an intake capacity of 25 students per MA program, totaling 175 seats. Admissions are conducted through the university''s own rigorous Entrance Test and Viva Voce, ensuring that deserving candidates are selected.
Situated on a sprawling campus of approximately 33 acres at Uttar Kamalabari, Majuli, the university provides a tranquil and inspiring setting for academic pursuits. The campus infrastructure is steadily developing to support an enriching student experience, fostering a vibrant academic community deeply rooted in cultural exploration.
