This college was established and known as “Robertson College” in 1836. Its name was changed into “Mahakoshal College” in 1947. The college was bifurcated and the arts college was named “Govt. Mahakoshal Arts” College” in 1962. Commerce stream was initiated and the name was again changed to – “Govt. Mahakoshal Arts and Commerce College” in 1983. The college is affiliated to “Rani Durgavati Vishwavidyalaya” under University Grants Commission. It was granted autonomy in 1992. This is the best Art and comm. Govt college in jabalpur
