The Telangana State Teacher Eligibility Test (TG TET) is a state-level eligibility examination conducted by the Department of School Education, Government of Telangana. This crucial test is designed for individuals aspiring to become teachers in primary (Class I to V) and upper primary (Class VI to VIII) schools across the state. Held typically once a year, the TG TET serves as a mandatory gateway to teaching positions in both government and private educational institutions within Telangana. Appearing for the TG TET is often the first major step for students aspiring to pursue a career in teaching at Telangana’s most reputed schools. With a single exam score, aspirants can apply for various teaching recruitment drives across the state — making it a crucial, merit-based selection tool for teacher eligibility. The examination is conducted offline, utilizing OMR sheets, with each paper comprising 150 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs). Candidates are allotted 2 hours and 30 minutes to complete each paper, with a total of 150 marks assigned per paper. The TG TET offers two distinct papers: Paper I for aspiring teachers of Classes I to V, and Paper II for those targeting Classes VI to VIII. Candidates can choose to appear for either or both papers based on their educational qualifications and teaching aspirations. The question papers are available in English alongside a choice of one regional language from Telugu, Urdu, Hindi, Bengali, Kannada, Marathi, Tamil, and Gujarati, catering to the linguistic diversity of the state's teaching aspirants. The syllabus for the TG TET is primarily based on the Telangana State Syllabus for Classes I to VIII. However, the questions are designed to assess the candidate's understanding and pedagogical abilities at a higher level, with difficulty ranging up to the senior secondary level for Paper I and graduation level for Paper II in specific content and pedagogy sections. Key subject areas covered include Child Development and Pedagogy, Language I (compulsory English), Language II (candidate's choice of regional language), Mathematics, and Environmental Studies for Paper I. For Paper II, candidates choose between Mathematics and Science or Social Studies, in addition to Child Development and Pedagogy, Language I, and Language II. In recent cycles, such as the 2024 examination, applications were typically invited in March or April, with the examination conducted in May or early June, and results declared within two to three weeks thereafter. Thousands of candidates appear for the TG TET annually, aiming to meet the qualifying criteria—generally 60% for General category candidates, with lower qualifying percentages for reserved categories. A significant feature of the TG TET is the lifetime validity of its score, as per NCTE guidelines, meaning candidates who qualify once do not need to reappear for the exam, providing long-term career stability in the teaching profession in Telangana.
