Government Ayurveda Medical College, Thiruvananthapuram stands as one of India's oldest and most prestigious institutions dedicated to the practice and promotion of Ayurveda. Established in 1889 by the Maharaja of Travancore, it has evolved from an Ayurvedic Patasala into a full-fledged college affiliated with the Kerala University of Health Sciences (KUHS), Thrissur. The college is recognized by the National Commission for Indian System Of Medicine (NCISM) and the Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM). Located in the heart of Thiruvananthapuram city, the college campus spans 18 acres and houses aesthetically designed buildings and comprehensive facilities. It offers a wide array of programs including BAMS at the undergraduate level, MD/MS and PG Diploma courses at the postgraduate level, as well as PhD and certificate courses. Admission to the BAMS program is primarily based on NEET scores, while postgraduate admissions consider AIAPGET results. The college has a total student enrollment of 559 and a dedicated team of 69 teaching faculty members, distributed across 14 departments. The campus provides a conducive learning environment with well-equipped laboratories, a rich library housing a vast collection of Ayurvedic texts, dissection halls, demonstration halls, and seminar halls. It also includes an herbal garden with numerous medicinal plant species and separate hostel facilities for boys and girls. The college is integrated with hospital facilities, including specialized units for Panchakarma and women and childcare management, providing essential practical training and treatment services.
