Regional Medical Research Centre, Port Blair is widely recognized for its significant contributions to biomedical research focusing on the health challenges unique to the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Established in 1983 as a regional centre of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), the institute's mandate includes conducting research on communicable and non-communicable diseases prevalent in the islands, with a special emphasis on the health issues affecting the indigenous tribes.
