Great campus with good infrastructure and good students. Having industry in the vicinity provides good exposure to all who seek it.The environment is conducive for research work and the senior academic hostel is no less than a 3 star accommodation. The UG hostel AKA Jasper Hostel needs renovation though.Overall, the atmosphere here is build for students' growth.

My brother is going to start his PhD studies here so I went with him and got a glimpse of the campus area, infrastructure wise it has beautifully maintained it's campus equipped with every facilities a modern campus requires, I saw 🚲 everywhere to travel from one lecture hall or library to hostel etc or going outside.Main canteen was a real mess though food prices were economic but it lacks real management of dispensing food, we were standing for half an hour without any token in hand or a serial number that they can write on bill paper and announce it when it is prepared but mismanagement starts here they give the food who is standing in front of them and a call they make it is not audible at all, they can use in home Mike or table number or any system that makes the process easy and smooth, it is not a big matter but sincere attention is required to rectify it so that, If a visitor vists this place and they will go to canteen, so making this place hassel free will leave a good impression or a reviewer like me will express what I have witnessed.

The Indian National Congress at its XVII Session of December 1901 passed a resolution stating that “in view of the fact that the tendency of recent legislation namely, The Indian Mines Act VII of 1901, is that all Indian mines must be kept under the supervision of mining experts, the Congress is of opinion that a Government College of Mining Engineering be established in some suitable place in India on the models of the Royal School of Mines in England, Mining Colleges of Japan and at other places in the continent”. The McPherson Committee formed by Govt. of India, recommended the establishment of an institution for imparting education in the fields of Mining and Geology, whose report, submitted in 1920, formed the main basis for establishment of the Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad.The Indian School of Mines was formally opened on 9th December 1926, by Lord Irwin, the then Viceroy of India to address the need for trained manpower related to mining activities in the country with disciplines of Mining and Applied Geology. In 1967 it was granted the status of a deemed to be university under Section 3 of UGC Act, 1956.
