More About IAM
Institute of Aerospace Medicine, Bangalore, a renowned leader in aerospace medicine, was established in 1957 as the School of Aviation Medicine, later adopting its current name. Located in Bengaluru on a sprawling 30-acre campus, it functions as a premier Indian Air Force institute, academically affiliated with Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences. It serves as India's central hub for aerospace medicine and is the sole institution in South Asia offering a Doctor of Medicine (MD) in Aerospace Medicine. IAM's flagship academic program is its highly competitive MD in Aviation Medicine, admitting 17 students annually through NEET PG scores. Beyond this, the institute conducts numerous specialized short-term training courses, instructing approximately 600 personnel yearly, including medical officers, aircrew, paramedics, and international participants. Its dedicated and highly qualified faculty, some with international experience, are integral to its rigorous education and impactful research. Recognized as a "Centre of Excellence" by its university and NAAC accredited, IAM is equipped with state-of-the-art aeromedical simulators like the Human Centrifuge and Hyperbaric Chamber. These facilities facilitate realistic training and cutting-edge research in high-altitude physiology, flight safety, human performance, and space medicine. The institute actively collaborates with international aerospace medicine organizations, fostering global knowledge exchange. Graduates secure esteemed careers as aerospace medicine specialists within the Indian Armed Forces, including the Air Force and Navy, and also contribute to the civilian aviation sector. IAM's unwavering mission is to excel in aerospace research, training, and evaluation, thereby enhancing aerospace safety and optimizing crew performance.
