North Eastern Institute of Ayurveda and Folk Medicine Research (NEIAFMR) is widely recognized for its unique focus on integrating traditional healthcare systems. Established in 2008 as the North Eastern Institute of Folk Medicine and later expanded in 2021 to incorporate Ayurveda academic courses under the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India, NEIAFMR stands as a prominent autonomous national institute. Located in Pasighat, East Siang district, Arunachal Pradesh, the institute is dedicated to the research, documentation, and preservation of traditional healing practices and folk medicine, complementing the principles of Ayurveda. Spread across 40 acres, the campus provides a conducive environment for learning and research. The institute currently offers the Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) undergraduate course with an intake capacity of 30 students, with admissions based on the NEET score. While the primary academic offering is the BAMS program, NEIAFMR also functions as an apex research center for Local Health Traditions and Ethno-Medical Practices, aiming to validate and potentially integrate them into mainstream healthcare. The institute is equipped with hospital facilities, including a 60-bedded indoor hospital, supporting both patient care and practical learning for students. NEIAFMR plays a crucial role in strengthening traditional healthcare with a special focus on the North Eastern region.
